The meditation methods of Kabir Das
Teacher’s Introduction
Saint Kabir Das was the Indian spiritual poet, and he was born in the 15th
century. He taught us to have a more personal relationship with God through
meditation and love, rather than relying on old rituals performed in a
mechanical and monotonous way. Through His deep poetry, he motivated us to seek
God within via devotion and right understanding rather than through exterior
symbols. Kabir Das's modest and contemplative life was a combination of Bhakti
(devotion) and Sufism. His teachings are still guiding those who are seeking
enlightenment and connection with God.
Meditation techniques
1. Silent Chanting of the Name
Saint Kabir Das motivated us to repeat holy names, such as Ram, Hari, or any
mantra. This method would bring about deep spiritual enlightenment and assist
us in calming our minds and clearing them of all distractions.
2. Sahaj Dhyan, or Breath Awareness
Meditation
According to Saint Kabir, our breath is the divine, and one way to bring
calmness and serenity into our lives is through practicing mindful breathing
exercises.
3. Remembering the Divine
Kabir emphasized constantly remembering God through focusing on the qualities
of God.
4. Anahata Naad, or Inner Sound Meditation
There is a silent sound within all of us, and we enter into a deeper state of
consciousness through observation of internal vibrations or noises like
heartbeats or the sound of complete silence.
5. Meditation on Our Own Nature
In his poetry, he asked questions like, Who are you?, and Who am I? When we try to answer these questions, we would be able to dissolve our ego and reveal our divine self.
6. Silence Meditation (Maun Sadhana)
When we sit still or silently without speaking or moving, we can experience the formless truth.
7. Sakshi Bhava, or Witness Meditation
We should try to observe ourselves objectively, and this would develop a sense of equilibrium and self-awareness among us.
8. Selfless Devotion to God (Bhakti Meditation)
According to Kabir, devotion is the highest form of meditation, and in this method, we sit in perfect surrender and with an open heart to attain spiritual joy.
9. Meditation on Surrender (Samarpan Bhavana)
He taught that we should give up our personal pride, uncertainties, and anxieties to God. This would help us in eliminating internal resistance and bringing serenity to our lives..
10. Meditation through singing and kirtan
Many people sang Kabir's poetry with tremendous emotion. Listening to Kabir bhajans or reciting his verses out loud has a transforming effect on the mind and brings heavenly bliss to the heart.
11. Contemplation on Death
We must acknowledge the transience of our lives, view death as a natural transition, and refrain from viewing it as a source of fear.
12. Connecting with Inner Sound and Light
Kabir stressed connecting with inner sound and light, and this process is known
as Surat Shabd Yoga. He motivated us to align ourselves with Anahad Shabd
(cosmic hum sound) within through deep meditation.
13. Meditation on Nature
We should try to unite ourselves with the five elements—space, earth, fire, water, and air. These are the basic building blocks of nature, and it would help us see the interconnectedness of all things.
14. Gratitude Meditation
We must honour the good things in our lives, and feeling thankful for what we have will help us dispel negativity and bring inner peace.
15. Meditation through action, or karma yoga
We should perform our daily tasks with complete focus and dedication, and meditation is an act of selfless service.
16. Meditation with the Heart (Hriday Dhyan)
According to Kabir, the holy dwells within our hearts, and we must meditate on It with love and dedication.
17. Light Meditation, also known as Jyoti Dhyan
He brought up the inner light frequently. During meditation, we should see a holy inner light, which can help to clear our minds and bring about keen mindfulness.
18. The Company of the Wise, or Satsang Meditation
Kabir recommended that we be in the company of saints and enlightened beings. It would raise our spiritual vibrations, and our awareness would deepen.
19. Eating carefully as a form of meditation
According to Saint Kabir, food was considered a holy gift, and the practice of
attentive, grateful, and slow eating heightens our enlightenment.
20. The Mediation on Oneness (Advaita
Bhavana)
According to Kabir teachings, we are inseparable from God. When we meditate on
the unity of all reality, we dismantle our belief in duality and ultimately
reveal our divine truth.
Conclusion
Kabir Das gave methods of meditation based on simplicity, devotion, and direct
experience of God. He emphasized the need for introspection and renouncing
worldly concerns. According to him, we should achieve enlightenment through
finding inner peace and love for ourselves. We may We can find God by
