The meditation methods of Meera Bai

The meditation methods of Meera Bai

Teacher’s Introduction

Meera Bai was a saint, poet, and devoted follower of Lord Krishna in the 16th century. She had renounced all her material possessions and would sing and write devotional poems to express her dedication to Lord Krishna. The foundation of Meera's spiritual journey was Bhakti, or devotional worship, in which she followed meditation and loved God. She used to imagine Krishna as her eternal friend, which she believed would lead her to freedom. Many people aspire to emulate her devotion and love, drawing divine inspiration from her life and teachings.

Meditation techniques

1.     Recite the name of Krishna

Meera used to repeatedly recite Krishna's name. This loving repetition of Krishna’s name helped her to develop devotion and heart purification.

2.     Bhajan and Kirtan, Musical Practices for Meditation

Meera Bai's heart had been deeply yearning for Krishna when she used to perform devotional songs. When we sing or listen to Bhajans, they create a mystical effect, calm the spirit, and fill us with joy.

3.
Meditation using mantras.

We should focus on Krishna's form and chant His names (Govinda, Gopala, or Madhava), and it would produce a feeling of divine presence and tranquility.

4.
Meditation on Surrender

Meera Bai realized that Krishna was her only protection, and she gave herself up to Him completely. This approach would help in the dissolution of the ego and the achievement of spiritual freedom.

5.
Love Meditation

Similar to Meera's complete absorption in love, we can learn to cultivate a profound spiritual connection by contemplating Krishna's unconditional love.

6.
Bhakti Dancing Meditation

Meera frequently danced in devotion, immersed in Krishna's affection. This dance is moving meditation with focus and dedication, and it would bring the body and soul closer together.

7.
Divine Vision Meditation

In her mind, Krishna was constantly by her side, and devotionally seeing Krishna's form strengthens her spiritual bond with God.

8.
Silent Reflection

Meera Bai had been constantly practicing silent communion with Krishna despite her singing. When we sit in silence and stay peaceful, we may feel His presence and deepen our meditative experience.

9.
Heart-Centered Meditation

In her heart, Meera used to feel Krishna's presence. When we embrace the heart as the dwelling place of heavenly love, it fosters inner happiness and loyalty.

10.
Spiritual Gathering Reflection

Meera used to seek the company of saints, and we will magnify our spiritual energy and inspiration when we meditate with other like-minded devotees.

11.
Tears of Devotion

Many times, Meera's love for Krishna made her cry. The heart is softened, and deeper spiritual experiences are attained through meditation on divine longing.

12.
Relaxation Through Nature

She used to find Krishna in nature—forests, rivers, and birds. When we meditate in nature while remembering Krishna’s presence, it would create deep inner harmony.

13.
Meditation on Radha and Krishna Leela

Meera used to see herself as part of Krishna’s divine play. When we meditate on Radha-Krishna’s love story, it would deepen our devotion and help us to renounce worldly attachments.

14.
Devotional Writing Meditation

Meera Bai used to convey her feelings for her beloved Krishna through poems. Writing down our prayers, sentiments, and experiences for Krishna enhances our devotion and meditation.

15.
Practice of Selfless Service

Meera used to believe that serving others was a form of service to Krishna. When we perform selfless acts with devotion, it will turn our daily life into a meditation.

16.
Reflecting on Dreams

Meera's devotion was so intense for Krishna that it expressed itself in her dreams. If we see dreams about Krishna and other heavenly beings, they might help us in leading through our life's challenges.

17.
Prayerful Meditation

A sense of yearning permeated Meera Bai's prayers. We can establish a personal relationship with the divine through meditative and sincere prayers offered to Krishna.

18.
Detachment meditation

Meera Bai gave up all worldly possessions and riches for Krishna. Detachment meditation means distancing ourselves from material concerns.

19.
Meditation on gratitude

After every experience in her daily life, Meera used to thank Krishna. When we meditate on thanksgiving for God’s grace in our life, the results we achieve are happiness and fulfillment.

20.
Oneness Meditation

Many times, Meera Bai did not perceive any difference between Krishna and herself. When we can contemplate oneness with Krishna or the Divine, the results we attain are realization and spiritual liberation.

Conclusion

The fundamental principles of Meera Bai's meditation techniques are love, submission, and devotion to Krishna. If we are sitting quietly, it is not meditation. Her path teaches us that we must also immerse ourselves completely in love for Krishna or the Highest. She taught a path that leads to union with God and freedom from all pains. Meera’s life demonstrated that love for God is the ultimate meditation.
